selecting film locations for Jane Eyre – Charlotte Bronte’s much-loved novel was written immediately after a visit
she made to the area and many of the book's descriptive passages depict the scenery
that still attracts visitors today!
Filming Jane Eyre at Haddon Hall The four part series, which first aired in autumn 2006, stars Ruth Wilson as
Jane and Toby Stephens as Rochester. Filming took place at a number of sites throughout
the area, including the magnificent location of Haddon Hall, which was chosen to represent Thornfield, Rochester’s manor house. The Peak District and Derbyshire is rapidly becoming a favourite haunt of the
‘set-jetting’ visitor – those who purposely visit film and TV locations! As well
as locations for Jane Eyre, the region also features in films as diverse as the acclaimed 2005 cinematic
release of Pride and Prejudice, The Dam Busters, Peak Practice, The League of Gentlemen and more!
Great Halls Of Fire!Haddon Hall was engulfed in 'flames' for the production of Jane Eyre - sophisticated pyrotechnic special effects allowed the Hall to 'burn' through the night during the filming of key 'Thornfield' sequences. Many locals made emergency calls to the Fire Brigade, who eventually had to position fire engines at the entrance of the Hall to allay fears that the stately home was being destroyed! |
